DPWH truck plunges Kalinga cliff; driver killed, helper hurt

PASIL,
Kalinga – The driver of a dump truck was killed while his helper was injured
when the vehicle they were riding in fell down a ravine here Tuesday around 11
a.m. at Sitio Limo-od, Balinciagao Sur.
The truck owned by the Dept. of Public Works
and Highways was driven by Sanchez Sumupang, 41, resident of Bado Dangwa, Tabuk
City.
A police report said the truck was ascending
towards Balbalan town to haul the soil
at ongoing widening road construction when the riprap at the right shoulder of
the road collapsed causing the truck to fall on the 150-meter deep ravine.
The driver together with his helpers
identified as Ramon Balwog, 43, t of Balinciagao Sur, Pasil and Bonifacio
Dalsen, 43, helper, of Naneng, Tabuk City, Kalinga were rushed to Kalinga
Provincial Hospital in Tabuk.
Balwog
was declared dead on arrival by attending physician.
